I'm converting my 135 fowlr that has been running for 8 years to an Lps zoa tank possibly sps . Do you guys think I can possibly take out all phosphates with running GFO in and 8 year tank and live rock or do I need to get new rock and start over?
I have a buddy who had extremely high levels of PO4 in his water and he was able to bring down the levels to his desire. I believe it took him a month or two. I know that he stayed on top of it and tested and replaced the gfo media often until he got it right. Boiling, rinsing, and then re-boiling some of the pieces that fit into a pot will help too.
If he used cooper at all in the tank, don't even think of using anything from the system in a reef set-up. Copper attaches it self to all most everything.
I lost all the corals I put in a tank that supposedly never used copper fish meds and after I lost everything I found out the store that serviced the previous tank owner didn't know diddly
