I looked at six separate colonies of red slime or cyanobacteria from my aquarium today. Each consisted of masses of long filaments. The filaments at 600 magnification appeared to be tight spirals, the tips of which were actively spiraling back and forth. Better than a National Geographic's special!
I trawled the Internet for the image I saw in hopes that someone gave red slime algae its genus and species. No luck, but I did find an animated GIF for sale! Who would of thought. Check it out.
