This is mainly for those who have been in the hobby for sometime now.

You've read all the debates, been there through a few technology advances, things are always becoming more effective, etc.

I get bored easily so I am always reading up on different things I can try. I was wondering what others who have been in for awhile up to now? Trying biopellets, building your own tank or sump, building stands, building the next big "must have"? Like the cool New algae scrubber (sorry forgot the name).

What are you trying to learn after you been in so long? Dabble about it a little so others may be interested!

I'm currently looking into learning how to culture my own phyto, rotifiers and copepods for trying my luck on a pair of mandarins.

Maybe PaulB can mention what he does to his mandarin!

I have been in the hobby since Eisenhower was President. I didn't know him personally though. I like tinkering and would never think of buying a piece of equipment. I wouldn't even know how to go about that. I built my lights UG filter, Wet Dry, bio pellet reactor, ozonizer, denitrification chamber, Surface skimmer, protein Skimmer first lights, second lights, third lights fourth lights etc. Algae trough, auto brine shrimp hatchery and feeder, normal hatchery, hollow rocks, chiller, mandarin feeder, seahorse feeder (patented that one) majano wand (also patented that) and a key that can open any door in the Plaza Hotel. I just like building things and the fish don't seem to care.
I don't use many of those creations any longer as I think some of them such as the bio pellet chamber is silly.
I also make these sucky things.

skimmer

LEDs and algae trough

manifold for reverse UG filter

cement over PVC rock

brine shrimp hatchery and shell seperator

mandarin and pipefish feeder

Majano Wand

This is a small glass reactor I built today to mix crushed clam shells with aquarium water to see how much phosphate is absorbed by the aragonite. Experimental results will be posted soon.

Holy c_w batman! You go real old school and DIY PaulB. With your tank able to beat the test of time. You must be doing it right!

djbetterly - setup and sell it!!! If it was priced right, I would be very interested in purchasing it.
