Has any observed cyanobacteria mats fading overnight and then turning red after a few hours of light?

I am not having much luck tracking this phenomenon down on the internet. I am stumped.

Thanks for any help.

Leave lights off for 3 days and the mat will not come back. See Kathy's thread about it.

Thanks basiab!

You will probably laugh when I tell you that I am studying cyanobacteria or maybe you guessed that after viewing my video link above.

I have a fish only aquarium and the cyanobacteria coverage is fairly small. I believe it is retreating on its own though there are a few resilient colonies that I partially removed yesterday.

When I had my fill of cyanobacteria close ups, I may try the lights out method, although I would like to get a microscopic view of the demise of the culture to see what is going on.
