I recently bought a brain from ACC and like all coral I temp adjust by floating it for like 45 minutes as well as turning off my whites and dimming my blues to lowest setting.

It then gets moved to darkest area within my tank til the next day.

With the weather being out this week I had a fan blowing to keep temps down so it's been hovering around 81 instead of 78-79.

Currently it shows some bleaching/whitening losing some color. No other corals are taking a hit. Almost all my zoas show signs of babies, torch is going from blue to gold and my 2 caps are showing bright color and New growth edges.

Phos is showing 0.02
Salinity at 1.025
Orp at 334
No testing for no3

I do WC every other week to almost every week if I don't get lazy.

I have only seen very minimal feeding tentacles come out after lights out and it wouldn't take coral frenzy or any of my ocean nutrient food I normally serve my tank. All flow is turned off during my attempts.

I personally don't think it is eating causing the color loss and not really parameters. It does blow up during the day.

Suggestions??

open brain

The mouths open but hasn't taken anything I tried feeding it. I did see copepods/amphipods crawling out it's mouth the first night. I guess it couldn't devour it?

well I think it definitely needs more light and flow you want some flow and moderate to high light if you can put in in direct lighting like right in the center of your tank on the sand bed and turn your power heads on. Do you dose cal/ alk ? What are you keeping them at ?

I currently don't dose as it has been unnecessary with the coral in the tank. Mainly zoas, 1 golden torch, 1 chalice frag and 2 plates. Again no other show signs of stress, only New growth.

I keep up with water changes so I don't worry too much on no3, cal or alk at this time. I may need to double check but didn't have to worry just yet.

Btw, I usually observe the tank by checking on low cal by my corralline and if alk is off then plates are quick to show stress. Along with observing other corals tell me if anything is stressing.

It may not be the best way but those are indications something May be off.

I'm not saying your levels are not in good range the most important thing is to keep them consistent alk range is from 8-12 but corals do not like to be at 12 at the beginning of the week and 8 at the end then you do a wc and drastically go back to 12 and repeat. Lots of corals like zoas and some of the easier montis will still live but if you keep your levels consistent you will se a hugh difference and I'm not saying this is what your doing but you should buy a cheap API reef master and check it out

Yeah. I have an alk and calc test kit so I'll check it now before water change, after and then for the next few days to see what my tank is currently consuming.
