I had the tank empty last week but no light mount. That probably would have been the ideal time to do it

I agree with Master, I was going to do the same on my biocube but after digging a bit more on the net I found tons of reports of tanks bowing a few months after removing trim. Not to mention ur taking a risk in damaging the tank during removal.

No biggie. Its not where I want it to be right now. Battling GHA and Aiptasia. Cooking some rock to replace what is too far gone. I'm not going to remove the trim. In the process of making a screen from the hood and some bird netting.

Nah I removed my top as well on my biocube and centered a hydra26 above it, light fills up the corners of the tank just fine, you just have to mess around with the height for a bit.

I have some light spill but it doesn't bother me that much

I had a 29 biocube that I removed the top trim and had no problem
