Hey all,

Just a fun little thread I figured I would start.. My first ever reef tank is the tank I have up and running now which is a 57g rimless with 20g pro aqueon sump and running two kessils a350 tuna blues as lights. Started this tank up in April and since then I have added two smaller tanks to the collection. I have been getting the itch to upgrade to a bigger tank and it keeps getting worse and worse lol..

So with that being said.. I want to know how long it took you guys to upgrade from your first tank or if you currently are still running your first tank. Think it would be cool to see how long it took people to upgrade and etc.

It took me about a year to upgrade. I thought a cadlight 39 gal would have enough room for my rock structure, but alas no. So I had to upgrade to a 50 gal cadlight.

I started off with a 125 gallon as my first tank. after doing some research and learning more from great people on here while my 125 was cycling i ordered a custom 240 that i am using as my divider. richie came all the way up and did everything that was needed to get this 240 going which i am now using my 125 gallon as my sump. when i had the 125 going i was using a 75 gallon as my sump, now my 75 gallon is my fuge. fathom leds came all the way up and got my lights going. i am in the process of building another house and i plan on going bigger. i would say 500-1000 gallons would be suffice. it wont be in new york so i wont have to worry about the outrageous electricity bill

I had a 55 for ~6 years. Then for the past 3 years I had several upgrades working my way up to a 450. A few weeks ago I went down to a 265.

I started out with a small freshwater tank, then lost my room and etc to sandy. After that figured I would try a reef tank and went straight to the 57 rimless. So far so good, but have been dieing to upgrade in recent months. Also have a 29 bow with clowns and anenomes but I need bigger! I want to make the 57 the clown and anemone tank and buy a bigger reef ready setup. However, I don't got the room for that right now so I don't know whats going to happen. Thanks for answering all, lets keep it going! Its interesting to see

I started with a 2.5gal freshwater in 2006 but got hooked into saltwater with a 15gal with a niger trigger and 7 green chromis for like 100 bucks with a P.O.S. hob filter. That's it. Upgraded almost every 3-4 months as i learned and learned. Too bad I haven't had the patience to let everything grow to its potential.

As seen, I have 2 extremely expensive hobbies and one usually takes over the other. You get to a certain point where you get really bored and you either upgrade after reading all the tank threads and seeing how beautiful someone else's tank is or you sell it off and think your not coming back only to get another itch!

I just upgraded from a deep blue 30 to a marineland 70, both cubes. Everything but water volume changed so can't say the tank isn't mature (1yr 2-3months now).

i started in 84 with a 30 long salt water, under gravel and eheim canister filters. moved in 86 so i broke it down and put it in the attic. reset it up a few yrs later as fresh water community tank. 2yrs later switched it back to salt for a short while, wasn't working out. so went back to fresh. in 04 upgraded to a 90 with arrawanas and similar fish, made the 30 a pira?a tank. in 2012 sold the 90 and bought my 150 reef tank, upgraded to 300 in march 2014. I'm satisfied for now.

Hi....i started with a 10 gallon (freshwater) tank, returned that tank along with the fish in 3 days and bought a 20 gallon for salt water (FOWLR)....i then bought a 15 gallon column tank for only corals, then i went for a 29 gallon biocube (mix reef).........after few weeks i bought a 38 gallon IM Nuvo (mix reef).....all this happened in the period of last 9 months........this hobby is addictive but i am loving it!
