Ammonia at .25 what do I do?

Tested my water for the first time in years and I'm at 0 nitrates and 0 nitrites but .25 ammonia. What can this be from? Should I do a water change? I've read not to because your getting rid of bacteria the tank needs. Confused please help

How big is your tank? How long do you wait between water changes? The only reason your ammonia is elevated is something may have died? Is anything missing?

125g, 2-3 weeks, cleaner shrimp is missing.

I tried 2 test kits both had the same reading. Mine and my lfs

Is it possible you don't have enough filtration? A cleaner shrimp shouldn't be responsible. How do you fish and coral look? Did you clean your filter or rearrange your tank? You can also add prime.

I have a 30 gallon sump. Ive lost a few hammers and a cowfish that got sucked into a koralia power head that decided to run In reverse. The cowfish didn't die in the tank but could've it released toxins?

I would do a frequent water changes for the next few weeks or if you have hardy inhabitants a big water change
