I feed my sump a few squirts of rods food once a week when I feed my corals, I shut off all the pumps and circulation and spot feed everything , I also feed the critters in my sump , and I have noticed my pod population increasing like crazy in the refugium along with a good amount of snails and bristle worms .

So do you you fellow reefers feed your sumps ? If so what are you feeding it?

i have a separate fuge that i don't feed, but i thought the purpose of it was to clean up dietrious and un eaten food, provide a place for pods to reproduce and help reduce nitrates.

Interesting question.

I add food to the sump because it houses shrimp and crabs that became prey items for the fish. I would think worms and pods would take care of themselves feeding on bacteria but I also have a nagging thought that we are starving our cleanup crew. So, I am conflicted. When in doubt, I would err on the humane approach of some feeding and let the bacteria eat the extras.
