Just got a new Spectra 90 gallon RO/DI four stage filter, and need help?

Can someone walk me through the installation process of this device.

I have instructions, but I have never used this type of device before, I don't want to break something, by interpreting something written in a wrong way.

So after talking to an employee at manhattan aquariums about this device. This is where I purchased the device the last few days,
I'm having a couple of issues.

Well for starters the guy over the phone helped clarify some of the instructions in setting this piece of equipment up, but

one big issue facing me right now is

the black tubing that comes with the device has a garden hose adapter. It says in the instructions

attach the garden hose adapter (connected to the black tubing) to your cold water source?

Well I tried and it doesn't seem to want to fit the nozzle located on my sink.

I live in the city and live in a apartment and we have sinks, not backyards with garden hoses.

When I talked with the guy over the phone too, he made it sound like it was fairly typical for a-lot of owners of these devices to have sinks, so I'm not sure if there is some specific way I'm suppose to connect this adapter or the type of adapter it has connected to this black tubing, really can only connect to a garden hose?

that faucet adapter might work if not post pics of your kitchen faucet that might give us an idea, or check the brand of faucet and check with your local hardware store for an adapter to the garden hose piece ( yes they do make them )

The adapter doesn't fit to a sink (aerator). The garden hose adapter is for outdoor garden hoses or washing machine hookups. Without either of those, you need an aerator to something else (like in the picture).

My hardware store across the street had the adapter that akma linked, but I really want to find an aerator to female push-in (john guest/ice maker line) so I don't have to have it on a male hose barb, since I don't trust them to not fall off male barbs, especially after repeated uses.

I'll keep looking for the adapter I mentioned (or whatever is as close to it as possible) and will post a link (hopefully someone finds/posts it first).

Per your other recent cycle posts you are very new to saltwater aquariums and buying RO/DI water at the store may be your best option to start.

Please be aware of the risks of leaks and overflows. You may only want to run it while you are home and get a good supply at once to hold on to and use for the entire month. As you have a 20g tank, you won't need that much. If you leave it on unsupervised, please make sure you have precautions in place such as a float/kill switch.

I do not have an RO/DI unit so I can't speak from experience, but if anyone else has advice or pearls for warnings/precautions, please chime in.

Also, as you mentioned to me that you were concerned about cost, you may be better putting the money towards stocking the tank or upgrading some of your equipment.

This is the set up I did on my spectra pure unit. Home depot.

Quick disconnect.
Run from bathroom sink into buckets in tub.

I am in the city tomorrow near broadway and 39th (930am) then e 67th (10-11am) and then park ave somewhere in the 70-80s for a few minutes I just have to drop something off. I will bring the extra faucet adapter I have. You will have to meet me at the location closest to you.

**FREE**

Please send me a PM so I can give you my info if your interested. Please hit me up as soon as possible so I know when/where.

You remove the current hose adapter and place the airline tube into the nipple on the side of the adapter. When you want to make RO/DI water you turn the black knob and let it go. You will run cold water as hot water will deplete your membrane quicker.

You want to place your water storage container in the sink so you don't experience the inevitable flood if you dont. I've had about 3-4 floods and it gets real bad so this is a warning if you don't want to listen now you'll probably end up paying another way!

Purchase an auto shutoff valve and watch youtube videos how they work/setup.

Lol yeah I feel this would be so much easier being shown visually. I'm a visual learner.
Auto shutoff valve goes where? Where do you purchase a auto shutoff valve?

Removing the current hose adapter? This adapter looks like it is locked into the tube?

Place airline tube into the nipple on the side of the adapter?

Turn the black knob?

Water storage container, you mean the three containers that this device seems to have, which already contains the filters?

Yeah again would probably be quick and easy with a real life person guide.

So you have a 90gpd RO machine but don't know what we mean by water storage container? Your answer was "the three containers this device seems to have , which already contain the filters?"

You may need to start slower than you are. Keep the until in the box before you flood your apt and buy some RO. Sorry to be harsh. Don't want you to have too much trouble in the beginning and then feel overwhelmed by the hobby and quit. Just take it slow and easy, you'll learn as you go.

Come to the swap this Sunday to meet and speak with everyone.

There are so many visual representations of how to set this up I don't know where to start... Start here:

http://bit.ly/1GWqYhu (LMGTFY for those of you in the know)

http://www.bulkreefsupply.com/video/view/how-to-install-an-ro-system/ for some good instructional videos

The first link should help the most. Just click on the spectrapure manuals. The manual from the box is really helpful with lots of diagrams and stuff. If you want to watch someone actually doing it, just google it, something like "install spectrapure on faucet" or something to that affect.
