Does Reef Chili expire?

I recently setup my first tank and got a bunch of frags at the swap. I've got a jar of Reef Chili which could possibly be up to a years old.

I noticed from reviews that people say it has a strong smell when they open the jar. Mine has a faint smell, even when I shake it up.

Is it expired and thus ready to get a new jar?
