I have had my tank set up for almost 2 years now. I have bought many corals from people on here but I have a question about what people lable "colonies".

what does everyone consider a colony. I have seen acros barely 2" & zoas with 5-8 polyps labeled "colony" on here. I would consider those frags and have sold & traded those size as frags. i would consider an acro over 3" a mini colony and zoas 15+. Is it just peoples way to try & get a larger $ amount?

I would consider this barely a mini colony. 4" tall x 3" wide.

There have been a few threads with this topic in them recently.

Basically, the hobby has changed and what people view as "colony" now is nothing more than a large frag. To me, less than 3" is a frag. Bigger than 5" is a mini colony and bigger than that is a colony....not a hard and fast rule, but a good rule of thumb.

Sometimes it gets confusing because of vendors/sellers selling frags as big as a pencil point. Why not just let it grow out a little before you sell it? ;)
