So far it has been my fish, I wanna just call it quits but I cant seem to let go if the fish. How many of you got to this point and what kept you going?
I never what to quit. It's so addicting and it really became a part of my life. It's keeps me busy. It's the passion for SPS. Maybe just the beauty of everything.
I want to quit its just too much hassle sometimes. I agree my fish especially my golden angel (used to be angels but then my temp got messed up)
My tank is still sitting on its side on my floor waiting for me to paint the stand but its been too cold. I had to leave my motorcycle at work today because the ignition cylinder froze
My kids keep the tank going for me: A few months ago I was close to upgrading from my 150, work and the kids school got hectic and tank takes somewhat of back seat. I have been toying with idea of selling my corals and keeping a fowlr tank for a while rather than breakin down
PaulB - the fish quit on him before he could ever quit on a fish!
When his tank was about to take a dive, he glanced over it with one eyebrow and the reef heavens opened!
The reef is a beautiful thing. Hard to let go over that "I am the master of my own ecosystem"! It's probably a god-like effect that you can grow/master such a complicated thing such as keeping a life on support!
I have wanted to quit many times. It's just the hassle like stated. Sometimes Water changes and the filter socks and the ato reservoir gets to me. But my 2 tomato clowns keep me in. Ive had the female for almost 9-10 years. Feel bad givin them away and not having a good life in someone else's tank. Lol
For me its more of a hassle to quit than to stay in. Its a lot of work to break down the tank and get rid of all the equipment. If i quit I'll be stuck with a closet full of equipment which would only taunt me to get back in.
I never had any hassles. And I don't change that much water (but Iconsider that fun as it is part of my hobby) I have no test kits so I don't get bored of that and I have no filter socks or a sump. ATO reservoir I have not looked in in probably 5 years and the RO membrane is about 9 years old. The DI resins I change yearly, it takes about 6 minutes. My fish never get sick so I have no need of a hospital or quarantine tank so I save time there. Except for cleaning the glass with a magnet cleaner and feeding them, I don't do anything to get bored with.
the challenge keeps me in it seeing a piece of the ocean in your living room and the expressions on your friends faces makes it all worth it but like i said the challenge of recreating one of the most interesting and complicated eco systems in the ocean in your living room thriving makes the aggravation we get at times worth it but thats just me
I'm new to this site but I've had my 75 gal reef setup for about 4 years now, and all the sudden with work school and everything else I just feel like giving it all up. I'm in a cross road right now. I guess seeing my buddies tank keeps me going.
Sometimes I wanna just chill and not spend $ or constantly be driving here and there for things but not having a reef is not an option keep trying with the sps I do ok but never had the sucess others have had!
Gonna keep going like piran said its part of my life now can't imagine not having reef or fowler
1. Seeing a piece of the ocean in our home
2. Doing something to one day help the preservation of our reefs
3. The challenge
4. Its a great and expensive hobby
5. The community that we have here to keep us on track and going :grouphug:
