I have a 265 gallon aquarium and a 125 gallon sump. I am wondering if a 20 gallon water change weekly will be good for my system or should I do more. Please help me because I am trying to keep a really good system running. What can I do to maintain my system or make it better. What fish or invertebrates should I add.

Is my water temperature ok? It stays steady at 85.5. Should I lower it or raise it or is it ok?
I have a few LPS coral, Mushrooms, Polyps, Soft Corals and a few Zoanthus.

I would do more than a 20 gallon water change that's not even 6% of your total amount of water 265+125 = 390. I would Do at least a 40 gallon change thats 10% , especially with all that rock in your sump.

85 is kinda high and it really depends on your lifestock load. Judging by your video it should be ok for those guys to have 20 gal weekly water changes. But as your tangs get bigger you will probably have to do more.

Temp is too high aim for 78-80. I prefer cermedia blocks in the sump I would use two. That chaeto is useless in that amount need a lot more. How are you controlling that many heaters? Id do two on a good controller.

Thanks Guys.

I took some of the heaters out. The temperature should drop to 80. I will like to at least keep it at 80. I plan to switch to 40 gallons weekly water changes. Instead of spending so much water to do my water changes every week I will like to purchase a RO/DI system. I will be looking for one to purchase soon at a good price.

Juan
just remember there are a lot of opinions on water changes and the amounts that should be taken out.
I think the one thing everyone can agree on is that detritus should be removed as much as possible so I would concentrate on doing that in the form of siphoning what needs to be siphond in place of amount of gallons ;)

+1 Mike, after many years, i am about to finish my experiments (Low Nutrition) the easy , low cost, so NO GFO, NO active Carbon, NO Berlin Sucks etc. No BioPeletts, just 12 ml. of Vodka for 280 Gal. system (easy to manage) and Protein Skimmer, i also use Diatom Filter to clean my sump every time i see any Detritus precipitation (actually , just use the sump as a Tank, for more water only and room for Protein Skimmer) I think #1 problem is , how NOT to build the Detritus and how FAST to remove, there is a GOOD reason why jackson6745 decide to go with that kind of Aquascape, mean more flow around, less Detritus precipitation, if you have a sand , i will consider "Luxury" need constant clean up. Water flow is the KEY ,NOT to much, NOT less, just good enough to push the Detritus to Protein Skimmer.About Bacteria , that anther issue, the more you dose , the more problem show up, low PH, etc , NOT all the corals like so muck, Thanks to HUB Bacteria Tests, who help me to find up , were i am. I repeat , the KEY is , How FAST you remove the Detritus. I run 9-11 pumps (of course NOT 100% in full) 3 MP 40 ,3 MaxSpect Gyre XF150 (2 in tank ,50% + 1 in sump 100%) one Tunze + some cheep pumps, NO chaeto (i see NO benefit , just problems, i use got 4 Basketball size inside the sump, NOTHING inside the "sump" NO buffers , just pumps, help to remove all the Detritus. Every tank is dif.

yeah water is definitely too hot... even at 80 I would say is still a bit on the warm side. Why do you want to keep it so high? Do you swim in the tank... haha. Keep in mind, the lower the water temp, the lower the fishes metabolism, meaning eat less, and poop less, so cleaner tank :D.
