Besides being able to control your tank from away from home what is the significance of a controller? I am in the process of ordering and getting a apex. I like the fact of seeing what certain levels are in my tank and I love the fact of a automated water change but besides that I am trying to find the rationale of spending almost $1000 for a controller. What's your input/thinking?

Just the peace of mind is worth the expense. Plus being able to control your tank while away.

Just yesterday I got a text from my apex telling me my temp had dropped below my desired level. I had the heaters off thinking I didn't need them at this point. But I was at work and turned them on from my phone.

A Heater turned off is nothing compared to being stuck on. I just got a apex jr for my birthday and it's great. I can do hardly anything compared to the bigger units but what I can do out of the box is great. I plan on trying to pick up a used pm1 and breakout box to set up a ATO.

I use both ReefAngel and Apex.

On the RA:
I have 2 water level sensors (not the mechanical kind, the water pressure type).
I have a subroutine that says:
If sensor1 AND sensor2 are below 85% turn on top off pump until 95%

Another routine:
If sensor1 AND sensor2 are below 25% turn off return, UV, DosingPumps, heater, Skimmer and email & text me.

Another routine:
If sensor1 AND sensor2 are above 145% then turn off Topoff (for safety)

I set my 2 x Jebao's to different patterns and strength throughout the day to mimic the tide. I have a less turbulent Gyre pattern at night.

I have feeding mode scheduled for 7:30 am
The return & skimmer turns off, and the 2 Jebao's go to 30%
at 7:32 the auto feeder turns on
at 7:34 the auto feeder turns on
at 7:45 feeding mode turns of - regularly scheduled program until 8am.
8am - 11am Nurtient Transport mode on the wavemakers is enabled which is designed to lift the detritus from the sand and in to the overflow.
