I have a forced air heating system with central air running threw it too. I have a duct line going right over my tank(tank is in the basement). The vent it goes to I have to remove to add a door in that wall where the vent is. Want to see what people's thoughts are of making this duct just blow right down one my tank? In the summer I know it would be great for the Ac to cool the tank. Anyone else have this on their tank? What are people's thoughts?

When I installed a fan to the cover to exhaust heat from the lights, I experimented with which way to blow it, up or down, in or out. I found that when I blew the air down directly onto the water, it actually cooled the temperature by a few degrees, (also evaporated an extra gallon of water per day) even though the air temp from the exhaust was over 110 degrees! I believe the hot air was like a desert breeze, a dry heat. Anyway, it was cooler then blowing the air up and away, which was what I would have though have been more effective.

I have a vent about 3 ft from the tank. During summer Ac keeps tank cooler and winter water evaporates almost 1gal an 1/2. Ph is around 7.9 - 8.1. I use soda ash to raise Alk and helps Ph a little. Because tank is in basement also. During the winter when the window is shut.
