Trained butterflies feeding on frozen food at a feeding station, which other untrained fish do not know how to enter. This allows me to target feed these finicky eaters without other aggressive fish getting in the way. Since all my butterflies know how to enter the station, they do fight over who goes in first.

Step one, feed new fish that you want to train, in a separate isolation tank with target food which is placed on a food clip.
Step two, once the fish has adapted to the target food, place plastic cage around food clip. (plastic cage is simply a recycled container with a slot cut into each side where the fish can enter. The cage is held in place using magnets. The top of the container is open and at the water surface for easy food loading)
Step 3, once fish is able to navigate the cage comfortably, the fish and the feeding cage/station can be moved into the display tank, where he can feed in peace, since the other fish will not know how to reach the food clip.
NOTE: the doorway/slots should be just big enough to allow the target fish to enter, and too small for your other existing fish to pass through.
