so , i got a maxima clam last Friday as a gift , this is the 1st clam i ever got , its about 5 inches , and to me it looks like it is not opening fully , so after reading about the care for this clams i am having that thought that it might have a pinched mantle ,
so my question is if it really does have PM then whats the next step will it be FW dip as all the forums say or should i give it some time , its only been in the tank for 3 days and also when it came it had aptasia on it but my peppermint shrimp actually took care of this the 1st day , thanks

I don't see PM. Looks fine to me. Just might not be a clam that wants to open up a ton. Some of the bigger maximas do that. Don't sweat it. Let it settle in. Make sure it has a stable spot and stays upright and blast it with light. You pretty much can't over light a clam, especially a big one.

I'm jealous of your peppermints. I have half a dozen in my tank and none of them touch aiptasia! Stupid shrimp.

well that's great news , i couldn't stop thinking that there might be something wrong with it since i got it 3 days ago ,
i mean its responding really well to the point that even every time i pass by the tank it retract since i create a shadow from the room's light ,
as for lighting i have a Maspect razor 120w and i will be raising the intensity slowly within the next week its currently on 60% white and 85% blue , i will probably raise it to 80% white and 100% blue , and see what happens along the way

and ya that peppermint shrimp is the best i used to have an infestation of aptasia last year got 4 of then 3 died the 1st week and that survivor ended up clearing the whole tank and he is still alive and huge now , haven't seen one aptasia for about 10 month now , the clam came with like 10 on it i put it in and next morning it was spotless lol

thanks man u made me relax a bit

Yes yesterday I put a rock in the sand and placed the calm directly on it and then I burrued it with the sand so there is rock under it I don't know if it attached I don't want to touch it for the next couple if days to make sure it attached to the rock , also does anyone know what's the name of this specimen or is it just called maxima in general

Looks healthy to me. Watch that he doesn't fall over. Otherwise you're correct in not wanting to touch him much. That's smart. He needs to grab that rock and get comfy.

Sometimes the bigger/older ones don't want to grab a big rock I've found. I had one for 2 years who was content on the sand. He was a big boy.

funny , after i took this pictures i couldn't help myself from adjusting it upright again and i noticed that it started to grab a hold on the small rock beneath him but was still kinda lose , so adjusted it carefully making sure not to rip its foot off the rock hopefully it is going to get a good grip on this rock within the next week (do you know how long it would take for it to firmly attach to the rock?) and then i would move it up on the rocks ,
thanks again man
