Only have a 10 gallon tank which could be used to quarantine new fish before I add them to my display tank which is currently empty. Could I quarantine 1 fish at a time in the 10 gallon before adding them to my display? If so what medications should I have on hand?

It depends on the size of the fish. I use one of those reptile 5gal tanks to QT small fish and it works really well. I also have used Rubbermaid container for larger fish.

As for using medication, well you shouldn't do anything until you see if the fish has anything, then if it does, treat with the correct medication. A QT has a number of purposes, one is to look for diseases, another is to give the fish some down before placing it into the main tank, and another is to get the fish to start eating things that are different from what it's a custom to eating.
