make sure to throw some silicone on both sides so you know your getting a 100% connection and makes it so you don't have to overtighten the bulkhead to get a good seal, preventing stress in the hole if you drilled it or someone drilled it without tempering the glass.

Seal gasket goes on the flange side, not the nut side. Don't matter if the flange is on the wet or dry side.

Putting silicone on the seal is a bad idea, some of the rubber seal don't react well with acid based silicone.

Thats a first i heard on the gasket and silicone. Had alot of gaskets leak because of a bad seal it created or a mispoured gasket while plumbing and heard of the silicone thing from a plumber in the buisness 30 years from a big city plumbing co. Haven't had a problem with the clients since we started doing it about the gasket drying, breaking, deforming or leaking. Removed a few b/c the clients wanted different fixtures but never from a destroyed gasket and they were all in one piece.
