I need some help in centering a metal halide fixture over my tank. Any help would be much appreciated. I currently have my Sfiligoi (very heavy) hanging from two studs I've found using a stud finder. It's unfortunately about 2" off center. I can't find any other studs that I can hang the fixture from. Anyone have any advice for me. I'm pretty handy but I'm stumped. image.jpg

Put a piece of wood screwed into studs that's cut to length so it's centered with tank.

Or sheetrock anchors or mollies is another option but not as strong.

Could open the sheetrock, put wood were you want it, close up ceiling again.

Why not just screw in a mounting stud across the studs in the ceiling on the outside. This way there is no mess to clean up. Paint it white and mount your hanging kit above the tank. If you want to get fancy you could always make it out if flat stock oak and trim it with some small moldings like quarter round.

I suggested this and it was a no go to my partner. I tried to get up into the attic to install the extra wood support there but there is no way I can fit through that small space where the kitchen is.

take a piece of pine, bevel or round the edges with a router, paint it the same color as ceiling and screw it to the studs. people dont look at ceilings and it looks alot better than ac registers in ceiling or that pvc eye sore.
the best way is if you can get access to the attic, then you only need 2 1/8" holes.
