So the other day I was in Michaels with the family and saw a bag of shells for decoration etc. They dont seem to be treated or polished etc. Would I still be able to use them for hermit crabs if i soak them in some vinegar etc to try and clean them up a bit? They were purchased for a project anyway so if they arent good for use its not really a loss.

Do yourself right! Take a trip to Sanibel, FL. People come from all over the world to pick shells 24-7. Bring a bag or two, look for a small rock jetty. Most people walk the beach, but if you find the jetty, go in on the left side about 20 yards out. You will feel the shells under your feet, dive or bend over to pick them up. Now you'll have the best dressed hermits in town! And a great vacation! Be sure to go to the Lighthouse Cafe for a grouper sandwich.
