So apparently my test kit has been wrong and I have been running my tank at around 11dk alk and 420 calcium oh 8.25 everything is great and the colors I'm getting are fantastic. Question is this safe to run at 11?
11 is at the hi end of what's good. Check magnesium levels. Normally raising cal makes alk go down, especially if mag is low. Are alk and cal levels steady? When mag is low they swing around. Are you dosing? Using ph buffer?
your mag is a little low. Around 1300 would be ideal. Safe reef tank range is between 1250-1350. Mag makes alk and cal stable, and easier to keep within range. It also effects how corals absorb. So if mag is low it doesn't matter as much that cal and alk are right because corals can't absorb them as well.
You have wiggle room to go up with cal. Anywhere around 400-500 is safe. Try upping your cal and see how much alk goes down.
What was killing me is I was using a bad Hanna alk batch and kept telling me I was around 7 so I was slowly brining it up to 8 I guess I was slowly bringing it up to 11 lol.
