I was in the hospital for a month, during which time my brother was house/fish sitting. Needless to say, everything went awry. My skimmer died, resulting in a giant forest of algae, which choked off my wave makers. In addition, the calcium reservoir for my dosing system went dry, so the system was pumping only alkaline all that time, raising the Kh to 21.5. As a result, my substrate is a giant block of calcium. I brought the Kh down to 11 with Calcium at 450 and did a 50% water change. My question is whether the substrate will separate on its own now that the water parameters are back to normal, and whether there is anything else I can do to fix it, other than chiseling it out and replacing the sand.
