Hey,

I just started to cycle a new tank about two weeks ago. I have a mix of live and dead rock, about 70% dead 30% live. Now it seems as if brown/green algae is starting to take over the tank. Is this alarming? I haven't been dosing too much with bacteria, I'm thinking I need to increase the dosing. Thoughts, suggestions?

not at all alarming. I'd keep the lights off to prevent algae.

remember, your tank is cycling so there is possibly ammonia, nitrates, nitrites, and other organics in the water that algae will feed off of. Very normal.

Good luck.

Depends how fast helpful bacteria grows, and how bad perimeters get before it turns the corner. Meaning, what's already alive on the live rock, and how much is going to die with the spikes before the cycle is complete. The more helpful bacteria present, the less of a spike you will see
