Jumper clam fading

My clam is fading, but when I put him higher in the tank, he jumps! He has never attached to a rock.

Is there any other way to keep him from fading?

Is there any way to attach him to a rock?

He is 4.5 inches.
Tank is 30" deep and 120 gal.
Lighting is 4 36" T-5 bulbs and 4 36" actinic bulbs.

if he keeps falling then he isn't in a stable location. try placing him in a ditch in the rockwork.

A happy clam will attach itself to the substrate it's on. Do not 'forcible' attach it using glue or epoxy. Keep trying different locations.

definately not enough light at that depth - I would say arrange to set up a shelf of some sort to stabilize the clam - try using a 2" piece of PVC cut to an inch to hold him.

Don't force the clam to stay in a location if it does not want that location. Get a flat bigger plate that's is readily dissolvable by its acid and let it completely(kind of) seal its foot by itself

leslie I have some flat base rock, you can use a piece to make a ledge if you need it.

NOt that I am speaking from personal expereince, but what type of clam is it? My understanding is that squamosa and derasa are sand dwelling clams, while crocea and maxima are rock dwelling clams

Thanks guys, Jonathan gave me a flat rock to put him on. I am going to put the flat rock on the bottom of the tank until he gets settled, then I will move him higher.
