Cali, I always understood that kalk drip without a calcium reactor was not a good choice for alk/calcium maintenance. Doug at Deltec talked me out of a kalk reactor and told me to use 2-Part instead. He said that on an SPS tank (without a calcium reactor) it would cause honeycomb and brittle corals.

I read a discussion on RC between Doug and Randy Holmes Farley on Doug's theory on honeycomb and brittle corals using only a kalk drip.

In a nutshell, Doug was wrong

Do you guys use two part solutions? What brand do you guys recommend?

When I was using a 2 part it was called Ocean Blend, it seemed OK for me. My brother raves about Bionic, but I have never seen it for sale. This is all in Florida though, I don't know what they have up here. There are a couple of articles around about how to make your own 2 part as well. Can't remember where I saw that, probably reefcentral.
