Hey, I was wondering if someone can clarify to me the real difference between chinese LEDs that cost about $150 and expensive LEDs like the ecotech gen4 that cost $600+. Right now on my 57 rimless I'm using LEDs i bought on ebay, I'll post the link below. I've had no problem with my coral, every piece in my tank continues to grow and seem to be doing great. Is it really worth it to spend the money and upgrade and buy better lights?

Link to lights I'm using now:

This might get touchy

NO, no reason to spend $600. I, like urself have one on my 45 cube off ebay, and like you stuff is growing like crazy. My Utter Chaos started with 4 poylps now have 11 in 3 months, and there slow growers. Have a ton of growth pics that im sure you have too. I'll throw one out there. Anyway if you don't care about having a storm in your tank or lights vamp up with the real sun rise and sun set then ur good. I have had 2 $595 a piece (won't say name cause i don't want to affend) over my 110 a couple years with a fancy remote and different color lights that dance and had coral die and coral grow. But not really a difference.

There can be quiet a bit of difference from R&D, drivers (ie meanwell), led diodes (bridgelux vs cree), led bins (when on the string it was produced which effects output), hardware and software controlling it, etc. That being said, as already stated, doesn't necessarily translate into results. I have worked with MANY manufacturers and designed lots of layouts - much of it is science but equally important is trial and error. For example tomorrow I have a new light coming in to test that on paper looks great but I will let the results speak for themselves.

i have two of the VIPARSPECTRA over a 90 gallon, i like them a lot.

I order the VIPARSPECTRA , so far (2 days i love it) all my LPS look great, i like the option of the button , if the remote , battery got bad, you have manual control, i run blue just 12-14% and white only 3%. This is my 40 B experiment tank.

Is true, High End LEDs comp. spend many $ on research , better LEDs, more Lumens, better spectrum, better reflectors, better drivers, better controllers, better service, etc. But if you do not intend to grow only SPS the cheap one still OK.
