I have ALOT of baby snails!

Is it normal to see baby snails in a tank? They are all around very tiny! Are they reef safe?

Without a description/picture of the shell, identification is impossible. There are reef-safe snails that are able to reproduce in our tanks.

they look like baby nerite snails. Could be wrong.

Nerites are like water rabbits, :bunnies:, I have one and in a week my LR was covered in white dots. if you have two they turn into a swarm of baby snails in a month or so.

You have a snail or two that looks like that? sorta flatish shell.

I believe those are collonista snails which are reef safe. Harmless grazers from what I have read on the net

Mine come out at night and graze on algae on the rocks and glass

Glad you started this thread, cause I have recently found myself swarmed with these aswell. Mine only come out at night. Looking at your pics I see another familiar creature, that star...are you finding a lot of these aswell. I have some and was also wondering if they were safe? (sorry for the mini highjack)

Asterina sp. stars are considered reef-safe until you see them doing otherwise (eating coral). People have reported species which prey on coral.

my nass. laid eggs on the glass in large clusters all over the tank. Then my mexican turbo came along and sucked them all up :biglaugh:

They are most definitely collonista snails. They typically hitchhike in on live rock and most mature reef tanks seem to have many, sometimes hundreds of them. Great to have!
