I have decided to do a major change in my tank. Remove all the sand, put some star boards and do some major aqua scapping. Any way just had a few questions on what changes in water chemistry I should expect when I will fully convert my tank?

There will be more questions, if its not trouble all are welcome to check them out from time to time and give me thier opinion about the prosess.
I will also take pictures..
Till then...
Happy Luther Kings day

When I went barebottom the first thing that I noticed was the I had removed 75 pounds of buffering component. Watch that closely!!!!

The next thing that I noticed was that I had removed some of my tank's ability to process nitrates.

when i went bare bottom i took out about 100lbs of sand but i added about 175lbs of live rock from my other systems. putting half in the display and the other half in my sump. it still wasn't as stable as before but it recovered fairly quickly

it's not bad, it's just different.

instead of using sand to reduce No3 the aim is to remove the waste before they can be broken down. a large skimmer and plenty of flow in the tank are key to this.

At this point there should be no debate which is better sand or BB, it comes down to personal choice. we know both systems work.

This is what you should be asking yourself above everything else. If you don't have a top quality skimmer rated much higher than your actual water volume (not just tank size) and heavy flow (tunze, vortech, return on penductors) you will not get the desired effects you are looking for with BB.

Picture of my tank now pending.............:Hydrogen:
I was reconvinced not to do it because of inadequate filtration and flow....
But will still use star board to rase my hight of the floor
