Sponge Question????

I have a JbJ Nano cube In the filter the water first passes throught sponges, Do sponges go bad and need to be replaced I have the tank about 2 years when I first got the tank I didnt need to clean the sponges that much now it seems that I need to clean them weekly, Not much has changed I still feed about the same and this problem has been only for the past few month the cleaning time is getting closer and closer when
I clean them I ring them out too nothing comes out off them and they are clean. Mabey I am not cleaning them good enought, If they dont need to be replace what is the best what to clean them.

Get rid of the sponge, nitrates

I have had them since I got the tank without any problem but I am open to new Ideas what do i replace them with???

Try filter floss. Just toss it out every few days, and you don't have to worry about anything getting stuck in your sponge.
