I just got two 3 1/2 inch clams today. I have read that they require a lot of light. I have the outer orbits light fixture with two 250watt bulbs. Where is a good place to place the clams?(92 bow front) Higher mid or lower on the rocks? Thanks, Shad

You can keep them on the sand bad.

am i right that the giant clams should be kept in the sand bed only if you have a rock plate underneath? I was told they lived among the rocks in the wild instead of sand. however, i see all the experts here have them in the sand bed.

Crocea and maxima clams are typically found attached to or embedded in rocks in the wild. For aquarists wanting to place them on the sandbed, it is recommended that they first be allowed to attach to a flat rock then placed on the sandbed.

We can do this because our tanks don't have sand dwelling predatory animals that would feed on them in the wild. They seem to feel secure when their foot is rooted within a piece of rock and or coral in the wild thus this is why we suggest you place the rock or frag disc within the sand and the clam on the rock, then cover some of the clams side with sand.
