Hey guys first time post for me. Just want to take a second to thank you all for the countless hours of reading and awesome amounts of knowledge in these forums .
I recently purchased a CPR hang on the back refugium (the 19in one) with the purchase I grabbed some Cheato and the other algae with the grapes. (w/e that one is called) Anyway the cheato leaves are turning white, I?m wondering if I should dump it and get a new batch. I remember the guy at the LFS telling me if it turns white it would release the phosphates back into the water. But im not sure if some die back is the norm when first starting out. Also im thinking maybe I put to much in at once the flow in the fuge seems to be passing over the clump of algae and out of the over flow. The bottom of the fuge has no water movement at all. Is it better to start with a smaller amount of algae and let it grow on its own?
I have 36g bow that has been running for about 2 years. I have 45lb. live rock in tank with about another 10-15lb of LR in place of the bio balls in wet/dry, also running a CPR skimmer in sump
I have tested the usual levels all seems to be fine. (using API reef master test kit)
Oh and is it better to turn the lights in fuge off when the tank lights are on in the beginning to promote algae growth? I read algae grows more in the dark then when the light is on. Im running 24/7 ATM
