Saturday, May 13, from 6 to 10 p.m.?the public is invited to attend an open house. Tanks of captive-grown coral will be displayed. There will be door prizes, art activities for children, food and drinks, speakers, hobby suppliers, and coral art. A raffle is planned that will support the joint effort of the Credabel Coral Lab and New London Maritime Society to promote marine education and history in southeastern Connecticut.
THE OPENING ART EXHIBITION
Headlining the show with his exhibit ?Projection, Reflection, Perception,? is physicist Elliot McGucken, Ph.D. A self-taught photographer, Dr. McGucken?s photography combines his love of physics and nature.
Exhibiting artists also include Rick Correia and Rachel Fogle?who are well-known in aquarium coral circles?and local artists Andy Stackpole, Elisha Schauer, Brian Skidmore, Krista Stanowicz, and George Grabel.
LINEUP OF SPEAKERS
Every 15 minutes from 6:15 to 8:15, interested hobbyists will have the chance to meet and learn from a diverse group of aquarium experts, including:
? Mr. Saltwater Tank, speaker, author, and creator and star of the popular Mr. Saltwater Tank TV, a web-based TV show that not only entertains audiences but educates them as well.
? Laura Simmons, curator of Cairns Marine in Australia.
? Mystic Aquarium?s Cris Sodergren, lead jelly aquarist, and Megan Priede, lead coral aquarist.
? Marine Science Magnet High School aquaculture teachers Eric Litvinoff and Michael Guyot, who will each present on the exciting successes of their program.
? Terence Fugazi, vice president at Neptune Systems, the market-leader in aquarium monitoring and automation.
For coral hobbyists in attendance, representatives from Apex, CoralVue, Fritz, and others will be at the open house to answer product questions. Credabel Coral will provide coolers or boxes for hobbyists who want to trade frags.
At 10 p.m., festivities move across the street to the after party at The Social, where gallery founder Grabel will perform with his band Incognito Sofa Love, featuring "songs about love and coral."
