sorry, my statement of things in the clearance section of the foster and smith and petsolutions catalog being outdated was more of a joke than fact. didn't mean to offend anyone! :happysad: :happysad:

I only offered this advice from experience. I personally thought i was skimming well, when i was using an aqua c urchin pro. Wet skimmed a quarter cup of non stinky skimmate a day, but it wasnt until i switched over to a big skimmer did i notice the differance. my water was more clear in a few days and i get about 10 times the skimmate i used to. It was literally like night and day. Made me wish i really spent the money on the good stuff when i first started out.

Good to hear :flirt: I was worried because you kept mentioning the skimmer's rating in defense of you using it.

For the skimmate you're producing, $100 is a great investment!

I believe I mentioned the rating once.

By the way I have read the complete 125 pages of the skimmer thread, plus a great deal of the RC threads including the last one you refered to. And I am more confused then ever.:headache: There is to much arguing going on to really say which skimmer is better.
I do know one thing. With all of the things I have had to purchase this week for this tank if I tell my husband we need a skimmer that is like $500+, I think he will shoot me no matter how much he loves me....

Dean, Having made several skimmers now, I stand by my statement that a skimmer is just a tube with bubbles, the only differences between them are the ways we get the bubbles in and out of the tube. and lets face it with hundreds of dollars at stake it pays to look at things scepticly.
Is there really that much difference between the turboflotor that everyone seems to think is worthless and a modded recirculating Coralife super skimmer which everyone was raving about ? they both have the same pump, needlewheel and the same funnel shaped riser tube into the collection cup and the bodies are similar diameters and heights.
I know there are a number of people on this site with beautiful acro tanks using this skimmer and i just get annoyed at the people on this site who have no experience with particular pieces of equipment but chose to make a judgement on them because they are considered too cheap or the wrong brand.

I think everyones' issue is, trying to use a Turboflotor on a 155g tank w/30g sump, and I quote, "lots of fish" including 4 tangs. There's definitely no Coralife skimmer capable of handling that kind of load.

OK. I have an idea, how about one of you guys lend me one of those skimmers you have in the closet for a day or two? This way I can see for myself, and be able to show hubby why he should shell out some more$$$.:)

you skimmer seems to be doing well awibrandy.....i dont think its about having the most expensive skimmers as long as the skimmer is doing what its suppose to do....efficiently.....that means pulling skimmate well....
i been reading the octopus skimmer thread on RC and i made the decision to get the recirc nw150....cost me a little over 300 and its rated for about 180g tank.....i am going to use it for a 50 breeder......the tank is not setup yet so i cant give you an impression of the skimmer.....sorry..
