Hi All, I'm new on MR and have re-entered the hobby after a few years away ? tl;dr I've kept reef tanks on/off for the last 20 years ? Brooklyn based and in NYC for almost 11 years.

In the next few months I'd like to add a Malu anemone to my tank and it seems like 1) Malus are really hard to find in NYC, and 2) I'm having trouble identifying a LFS that have access to a reliable supplier with quality specimens.

I've been to a few shops around the city already, including Pop, Manhattan Aquariums and NY Reef Aquatic... Do you have any preferences for LFS in the 5 Boros when searching for (or ordering) anemones? I'll go far and wide to build a solid relationship with a great LFS!

I've also considered an LTA and small Gigantea, but have decided the Malu would be the best option for my tank (IM Nuvo 30L) as it stays relatively small and I'd like to resist the urge to upgrade to a larger tank in the future.

Thanks much!

Your best bet may be to go directly a website, usually Malu come
In with sebea anemones and are mislabeled. They can be purple or green.

You may have better luck finding a sebea anemone in purple or brownish green.

Malus also show up on the smaller side.

Thanks for the replies thus far!

I'm pretty set on a H. Malu primarily because they don't grow as large as Sebaes.

Also scouring the web and it seems iBlueWater has the most regular supply (but they're incredibly expensive, I guess due to their dedicated/exclusive collectors/suppliers), and, also keeping tabs on eBay offerings. I happened to find some previously sold really unique neon green Malus at a Chicago shop (ReefWise) and awaiting a reply to an inquiry.

Looks like I'm going to get some dim sum in flushing this weekend ;)

I'll keep you updated!
