thanks jonathan. im going to ask a complete noob question. Could not flushing out the membrane contribute to phosphate and othe undesireable build up? My unit is only about 7 months and i can't seem to identify the causes of my cyano. Was thinking it could be my old actinics bulbs as the spectrum might have changed. My skimmer is doing big time work, so i dont think its a matter of a poor skimmer.

As for food, i was feeding home made mix of shark fillet, cyclopeeze, mysis shrimp block from 2005 group buy, raw table shrimp, raw oysters, and some "coral life invertabrate smorgasbord" have since stopped feeding this mix but cyano still remains.

Now i just feed spectrum pellets, nori, esv spray dried phyto.

If it could be the flush problem how often are we supposed to flush the membrane? i didnt flush it for a good 2 months.
