Hey there,

I have never dosed before because I just simply do not have the time to do so and I don't want to set up automatic dosers as I have no experience with them.. My question is, I am currently running softies, hammers, frogspawns and zoas. Do I need to dose? If so what should I dose with? Benefits of dosing versus non-benefits and vice versa. Any information is helpful. Tank is pretty much stand alone with little matienance so I do not want to add to that as I don't have much time. Currently running a 60g with skimmer, fuge section, and ATO.

Are you talking about dosing cal and alk?

If your alk and cal stays within range with your regular maintenance than you don't need to dose.

If you do need to dose than add kalkwasser to your ato. Simplest, easiest, and cheapest way to go

In all honesty and this may sound bad but I rarely test any levels. Do regular water changes and just use a skimmer and everything Is healthy and looks good. That's why I wasn't sure if I should bother to dose or not. If I do dose kalk, how much would I have to put into the ATO?

You shouldn't dose anything you can't test for. Alk and cal is easy to check. If you're out of range you should dose. How much you dose depends on how much you're out of range,

if I were to dose I would obviously start testing everything.. But I am a firm believer in the less I mess around with the tank the better off I will be. Thanks guys

yes that is totally true. dont mess with your tank too much. but testing your water isnt really messing with it. its just monitoring it. I would say if you're considering dosing, your first step should be starting to test at regular intervals to watch what the levels look like. if they are just constantly trending down and water changes dont seem to replenish them, then I would consider dosing.

I know testing dosent mess with the tank .. I just don't do it because everything is healthy. Was just curious if dosing would increase coral growth as at the moment is is quite slow but everything opens fully and looks good. Only reason why I was asking. Thanks all for the advice.

If you don't test than you don't know. If you're out of range and you think everything looks good, you'll be amazed at how much better once under control.
It's good thinking to let the tank be, and do it's thing. But just as good to know what's going on by monitoring, and watching swings/patterns, and keeping things in check before it becomes a problem

API works well for most. Red Sea arguably better. If money's not a concern than Hanna checkers are pretty cool.

Api makes some kits. That allow you to test a bunch of stuff. Cheaper if you buy a kit instead of separately
