Skimmer is going nuts after adding a filter sock

Hey guys, just started using a filter sock on the tubes going into my sump. Immediately after putting these on, my skimmer went NUTS. Is this normal?

yes. Wash them first. I use oxyclean and a little bleach in a washer.

It's no big deal. The skimmer will settle in after a few minutes and you'll be all set from there. No damage done. Just remember when you do wash them to use small amounts of oxy and bleach. Softer side in. I never dried them in a dryer. Anyone?
