Rimless tanks - so frustrating

Back when I was keeping deep water cichlids (yes African tanganyikans) which were prone to swimming up and down vertical rock walls, they jumped constantly, similar to flasher wrasses. Rather than use a screen cover, I extended the tank height by 4 inches by using thin acrylic sheets. The only thing I had to do was join the corners and sit this open rectangular box on top. Those 4 inches blocked their jumps. Just a thought if the goal of rimless tanks was for top viewing.
