I bought one. I found it required calibration almost every time I used it. Now I'm sticking with a refractometer, and I'm getting reliable results faster than with the digi. At least the refractometer maintains calibration when I test it.

Digital Salinity meters are okay in the beginning. if you are going to use it for a pond or brackish water they are fine. For fish only systems where no calcium is being added they are okay. I used a pinpoint salinity meter on my reeftank and its less than ideal. It gradually goes off by a bit. If you are going to use the digital make sure you use it in conjunction with the refractometer. Dip the salinity meter daily to get you readings but still check with the refractometer once a week or so. That way you will get any deviations between the two. 99.8% accuracy usually refers to the "beginning" when the meter is working well and that does not guarantee long term use.

I just picked up a refracto from reefexotics for something like $50 shipped.. I been using my friends 119 dollar refracto with a light and after using both they were both on point, To me it seems I can read the cheaper one better as the blue color is alot deeper and easier to read than the one with the light.
Also we checked a hydrometer to see if it was accurate, it was exact..
If you choose a refracto they ask you to calibrate it at lease the one from reefexotic you have to, You'll need to get distilled water , save your self a trip boil a pot of water in a tea kettle put a spoon at the steam youll get the 3 drops of distilled water to calibrate it. If any thing I would have 2 means of testing your salt..Thats just me tired of stupid mistakes
