I have a halide pendant over my tank and am considering covering it with eggcrate to prevent jumpers from escaping. Will this have any effect on the amount of light that reaches the tank?

I would just raise the light a bit if you want less direct intensity
i would just unplug the light, maybe that would keep the fish from jumping.

oy, some people just dont LISTEN to the question. does your wife complain about your listening skills there jimmy boy? :tongue1:

what about building the sides up a little higher so they wont make it out of the tank?

Take a look at this thread also Eric. Lots of info on the materials used.

I put doors on mine for access but I'm not happy with the shadow that the door frames are throwing. I've found a place to buy square acrylic rods and I'll be re-working mine in the near future to give it a cleaner look.
I will post a thread once I make the new one.
BTW - My McCoskers wrasse came right up through through the eggcrate (which DOES block a lot of light)...so the eggcrate isn't a perfect solution. When the frames are built to just the right size they lift out very easily.
I also have a lot of extra netting - if you want some, just let me know.

I would love some of the netting... this sounds like a much better solution than the eggcrate... we need to get together soon anyway, so if you can bring it when we meet up, that would rock!

We should also get Mike and all grab a beer this time!
