Thoughts on splitting bioload

Currently running a 150 gallon mixed reef with pretty stocked bio load. Just acquired a 75 gallon tank and I am thinking of splitting some of the fish, rock and coral to 75 gallon tank.


Do you think I can pull this off without cycling the 75 or effecting the 150? Pretty much just swapping some out and adding additional water as if it were a large water change to both tanks and in the process transferring some of the fish as well. Thoughts?????

I would be more worried about the 150 when removing the rocks then the 75 cycling. If you want to be safe i would add some matrix in bags to the existing tank. Let it sit a few weeks so bacteria builds up then put one bag in the new tank and leave one in the sump of the 150.

My hopes were that moving the rock along with some fish would balance it out.
