Nother major error!

how many times have you heard,"don't mess with your tank before going to bed or before going on vacation"? well last night i decided to add a bit more flow to my 40br so i started messing w/ the tank @ about 11pm. all i did was switch one powerhead from one side of the tank to the other and add a seio. well.... while plugging in the seio, i noticed that everything shut of but then came on again.

no worries, right?

WRONG!

when i woke up this morning i noticed my display was half full[optimistic(luckily no corals or LR were exposed)] and my sump was full to the rim. so i go to inspect everything and it seems that the power center wasn't plugged in correctly.

argh! the only thing i'm worried about is that all the macro in the fuge was out of water for a while since the fuge drained completely.

Jon,

Often in cases as outlined by you here, nothing goes wrong and no major losses occur - this is not the rule of thumb but perhaps dumn luck.

Hope it works out for you - I tend to not touch my tank at all if I don't have to. Lessons learned.

probably the only time i mess with the tank is late at night (i am usually busy with a million other things that playing with the tank tends to come out of 'sleep time')

well of course it goes without saying that more often than not a quick little 10 minute project often results in a tired, frustrated, and wet little boy by the time i sneak into bed at 5am. that is the point of course when my wife rolls over and mumbles 'why didnt you just ask someone who knows what their doing to do it for you?'

thankfully the dog cant make comments (but he does watch me with that perplexed look)

The other night, It was about midnight and I wanted to hook up an assembly I made out of PVC so I can hook my skimmer up to the drain. It should be a real easy project as it is just a matter of loosing and retighting a hose clamp. I deceided to wait, because the last thing I wanted to do was deal with an unexpected problem at that time of night.

It must have been going around. Last night I tried to move an acan away from a SPS growth tip it was killing. Should have taken 5 minutes, well three hours later, I had destroyed five SPS colonies, had a major rock collapse and created many SPS frags by accident. My tank was looking so grown in, and there I go and FCUK it up!

i wish i had read something like this before friday night it was late and decided to mess with the feed line to my r.o long story short i flood my kitchen and the people down below. i went to the room for a minute and fell asleep and the line came loose.the super had to shut off the water.i tend to work at night being that my 2 year old shadow takes alot of my time.

I would have been better if I was prepared. In the middle I need extra water, two five gallon buckets, and four hands that I didn't have, and all my reef tools (fragging shears, etc). I also realized that I have no place to put stuff within the reef to hang out while moving corals around (that is how most frags were created).

To add insult to injury, all the time my hand was in the tank my damsel was biting me! SOB

I have definately been there! Soaked carpets, long hours and no end in sight. But after its all done and over with I always say it was well worth it! Matt call me when you have an emergency. I'll rush over as fast as I can! Always roaming the neighborhood!!
