I just ordered the Live Aquaria Reef salt.
Figured I would give it a try since the Red Sea salt that I have been using is getting expensive plus the LA Reef salt is 25% off right now.
?I believe? the purple doesn?t have the increased calcium, alk and other elements in it that you get with most other salt. If you have a FOWLR tank you don?t need them.
The purple IO mix comes in with numbers close to NSW, RC is higher in calcium, magnesium and added vitamins (debates still ongoing if needed). BRS did a video on running elevated Alk and Ca if you want to watch it https://www.bulkreefsupply.com/vide...-for-faster-growth-part-2-brstv-investigates/ so a little more think about before discounting it.
I have had problems with most commercial salts recently. I strongly recommend ESV, you mix it up yourself from three components.
All of the commercial mixes I tried were mixing with VERY low Magnesium levels which was one of the reasons I had a horrible hair algae problem when I rebooted my tank. No matter what I did it would not go away until I bought a Mg test kit and found that it was super low. Tested IO and reef crystals after mixing and both were equally low. A few others tested their fresh batches of different salt mixes and got similar results.
