I have been in the hobby for 4 years now and I know that seeing sponges grow in your tank is good..but I also know that if the sponge dies..well that is not good.. I have a sponge thats growing on my chaeto and trying to decide if i go and cut around the chaeto and get the sponge out..or should i let the sponge grow and see what happens.. the sponge right now is like a one inch round ball...

I would leave it alone. If you are going to take the stance that anything that could foul the water when it dies has to go... then you need to remove everything from your tank.

I have a pygmy angel who is great at eating any little filimentous algae off of any rock I put in. I'll even pick out between 2 corals the one with more greens on it for a treat. They're usually shiny as a marble after he has a few minutes with them the tank.

I also have a few white q-tip sponges growing, yet he won't touch them. Now, I have also read that having sponge growing in the tank is a healthy sign, but, is there something about q-tip sponge that's actually bad and I don't know it?

See what I worry about is that if the sponge out of no where dies.. i have seen a friends tank that the corals died due to sponge death..thats why im ify on keeping it...i mean my water quality is good and i will maintain to keep it like that..but really ify on it...and then the growth..
