Protein Skimmer

Hello all I just purchased a Reef Octopus Regal 150-INT and I was wondering the proper height that the skimmer should sit in the tank. The instructions says between 6? & 8?. The vent that drains the water back into the sump has a hole on the top. Which I?m assuming has to stay above the water level but which makes the skimmer loud. Can I have that vent/drain stay under the dumps water level or is it important to keep it above the water line.

keep the skimmer drain above water line if you can. If drain is under the water level, Skimmer will have back pressure causing water level in the skimmer to raise and fall with the sump water level. The effect of this is sometime bubble overflow the collection cup or no skim at all.
