As a newb to the site and to the hobby, id like to chime in to maybe offer the prespective of someone in my position.
I think that as a newb on an online forum (and ive been a part of a bunch for a while now) the newb has to get to know everyone before they take their advice. As of now there are only a handful of people that i know, and based on what i know about them i deal with the advice accordingly. But if i get a piece of info from a member that im hearing what he has to say for the first time i would be careful before accepting it and labeling it as "good advice".
I think its the obligation of all newbs to approach scenarios like that. I understand not all newbs are going to think that way, but its what we have to rely on.... unless you come up with that knowledge rating system that was mentioned.
Another major thing that helps newbs pick and choose whos advice to take is by emphasis (like reefman said). If there are 10 replys to a topic, and one says to do X and the other 8 say do Z the guy who asked the question going to take the advice of the 8 people. The one thing im not for is flaming. Its just not right to bash someone who posts something stupid because that will only make things worse. Ive seen countless times where users were flamed for saying something stupid, and as a result of the flame someone reading the thread does the opposite saying that those ppl have their egos involved so im gonna go the other way.....
So far as a member for about 2 months now im absolutly loving it here. MR is a great place. However im a little let down by the fact that i dont know more of you. Most of you are great people and i want to thank you all for making MR what it is.
........ Thats MR in the eyes of a newb
