Wow I wake up and now I have to take a test?
Oh and yes I do need to learn to type and spell.
Spell check is what the site needs LOL.:)

This thread was never meant to bash anyone.

What works for one, may not work for another, but advise should be based on some experience.

Paul B, very well said.

I NEED A SPELL CHECK :banghead: :scratchch :bigeyes2:

If that's not a sig line nothing is.

I like the idea of tests. Even if it's just a 'find out how much you really know" test. Someone should come up with some questions and pm them to me. I'll throw it together as a thread later.

I've stayed away from posting on the open forums, but if I may chime in on this one:
Badges? Bad advice.
Tests? Bad advice.
You've got everything you need right there on that little box on the left. A tank link. The single best piece of advice I give to any hobbyist is before you take info from anyone, look at their tank. If their tank is what you want, look into their advice. If it's not, ignore them.
This site is loaded with bad advice. As Shaun said, most members haven't seen a good tank as a gauge. This is the single best feature of this site. If you like a tank, get in your car and go look at it and pick the persons brain a little.
Badges and tests... did I really read that?

Chris,

You're are absolutely correct. I learned who to take advice from by looking at their tanks.

Steven

P.S. Spell checker is your friend learn how to use it. Half the time I can't even finish reading a thread if I have to sit there and try to decipher what the poster is saying. Please take the time to reread your thread before posting.

I agree, I have gotten a lot of correct info from people who take time in showing their acomplishments. That tank link "My Tank" to show exactly what ur tank profile is.

there comes a point where common sense should apply here. somone break out the violin. not everyone is an expert but some have ideas. would you trust a psycho in a mental institution with a switchblade? dont think so, its an example. look at there tanks, that should give you an idea about it.

Photo Gallery? Tank thread?
There are other options. Almost everyone has a tank thread. Make direct links in the box on the left for it.
What are more titles going to accomplish?. Mods are just as guilty as anyone else at posting questionable advice. Herman so graciously admitted that just because someone is a mod, doesn't mean they know more than anyone else. But as was brought up in another thread, mods tend to have a following of brown nosers who reply after each post with praise, giving false impression that they are right. Now we'll have a badge saying "listen to me"? Doesn't help anything. Creates another click or "squad".
Fred is one of very few good SPS guys on MR. He was considering T-5 on his new tank. He asked to see pics and with all the rave reviews we hear on T-5, no one was able to produce a single pic showing this wild success that is frequently boasted. Fred decided to go MH.
Proof is in the pic. Proof is sitting right there in your living room. Proof is those who can show color and growth for extended periods of time, not just during start up. How about following up the MR rules with a disclaimer that they should be cautious of who they receive info from and strongly suggest viewing tank links and threads before they take anyone's word for it. As Herman said, people successfully keeping gsp are now viewing themselves as experts.

I'll join the book club. Even if it takes a year to do a book it would be cool. After we pick the book we could decide how much to cover each week and that could be that weeks thread. At the end of the week, we go on to the next section. It would force me to read the chapters that I am not so interested in:)

What book?

I'll say I have a long way to go to acomplish what I
want to have in my tank, and I've not heard a mod ever say they know it all. the mods are not information banks, we're learning all the time like everyone else.
If I make a mistake in advice I'll be the first to say sorry I blew it.
the badge thing is just an idea now, call it what you want, badge, symbol,
denotation, the goal would be to let people know has real knowledge of a subject. adding some sentences in the rules about taking advice with a grain of salt :P is a good idea also.
