These are the fixtures that fit in a 24 inch hood that I'm talking about. How do you like them and what are you keeping under them that is really doing well? What kelvin bulbs are you using? Anyone have experience with the 8.8k bulbs? TIA.

Thanks for the info Sea Serpent. I have always kept only two systems: low-light polyp tanks and high-energy sps tanks and have absolutely no experience with softies or lps. I'd like to keep some of the lps like favia, candy canes and such. In your opinion then, will 4x55w pc be adequate in a 20g? Thanks.

just curious..
How are you gonna situate the 55's? Squeezing 4 into one hood is gonna be a feat.
Do you plan to angle them? I'd like to see a pic of your hood whenever you hook it up if possible.
I have 2x55's over my 29g, and may be looking at adding more in the future...

thanks,

Hi 2poor (love that name!),
I have a 72 bowfront and just upgraded from 4 55w pc (2 strips of 2 55w). I had them for a year and was generally happy with them. I kept: shrooms, anthelia, a beautiful bubble coral, galexea (kept at the top of reef), sponge, diffent types of polyps and a bubbletip anemone w/maroon clown. The inverts were happy and all fish were healthy. All in all, a very nice variety. The only reason I upgraded was because I really wanted to try some sps corals and a clam.
Good luck!

I was able to squeeze 3 55-watt lamps with individual reflectors (AH Supply) onto my 15-gallon tank. But man was it a tight fit. I had to raise the middle lamp using a strip of wood and slide the other two lamps on either side underneath the middle one. I'm using a 10000k in the back, 03 acinic in the middle and a 6700k in the front. Everything is doing extremely well (favia, green tree coral, pink acropora, xenia, mushrooms, tubeastrea). I've only had the acropora for a month so it's still too early to tell how it will do in the long-term. But so far, so good. It's maintained its pink coloration with no noticeable fading. I have it mounted about two inches below the water line and the lamps are about 7 inches above the water line.

I've got 4 x 55 w PC over my 55: 2 @ 6700K and 2@ actinic.

I've got Cynarina Button, Candy Coral, Pink Tooth Coral well over 1 year, umpteen shrooms over one year, Pipe Organ, Galaxia, Torch, 6 months, and various and sundry frags for the last year or so.

I tried 4-55w pc's on a 20g and they would not fit and it's pretty tight with just 3. You will do fine with just 3-55w in a 20g and keep a variety of corals. I would put 2-10k and 1-03 actinic. I currently have 4-55w pc's (2-10k & 2-03) on my 46g bow front and works great with my current load. I could put more pc's but I want to wait and save up for a dual 150w HQI system. My friend can get it for me for around $450.

Here is a pic of my tank with the current lights. As you can see my corals are doing great. I have one sps coral in the top middle and it's been doing great with the lights for about 1 year and growing pretty good. If you look to the top left, my flourescent green staghorn is grow great with that setup and has grown to the top of the surface in about 1 year. It was about 1 1/2 to 2" below the surface about a year ago. Also my derasa clam on the bottom has grown from a 2" baby to about 6" in 1 year with this setup.
